Angel Food Cake Cutter

Well, here’s an odd and probably obsolete gadget – an angel food cake cutter:

It’s supposed to cut your angel food and sponge cakes without squishing them like a solid blade would. I don’t know about you, but I am ok just using my serrated bread knife…

Hi Eden, this is Cyndi, the new editor of Cooking Gadgets. Just click the link in the first sentence of the post…there’s one available for $5!! Arieanna didn’t think it was a cool gadget, but I do :-)

I would like to know where ne can obtain an angelfood cake cutter. I noticed they used one on the Everyday Foods television show. A serrated knife does not do it for me, especially if you have a thick glaze on the cake.

I ask because angelfood cake ‘iced’ with whipped cream and strawberries is one of my all time favorites

    :)

hmm..I never used it on those…just angelfood and sponge.
    Should be no different though.

How do you find using it on cakes with icing?

I really like mine. One of the nice things about those types of cakes is that they are really airy and soft. When you pull a knife through you lose some of that texture depending on how your knife is, you could lose alot of that texture.
I think it makes more of a difference when you are cutting through a freshly made cake though, those seem to deflate much more easily than an older one.
