According to the wrapper, this pecan and caramel nut cluster is "giant." Which it definitely is--at least compared to the others. It outweighs them by half an ounce, but has almost twice as many calories as most of the others. It also has 12 grams of fat and 20 of sugar.
Peeps used to be Easter-specific. But add a little food coloring, artificial flavoring, and chocolatey coating, and voila! Seasonal!
This candy is pretty low in calories (just 110, which is still a lot for a single candy) and sugar, but the presence of Red #3 and Blue #1 (at least one of which has been banned in other countries) make it a good candidate for the "candies to avoid" list.
Also, it smells like a funeral home.
You'll be seeing quite a bit of Russel Stover on this list--mostly because they're one of the most prolific makers of Valentine's Day candy. Also, because they make stuff like this marshmallow, caramel, and chocolate monstrosity. It's lower in calories than the other candies--just 120 in the whole thing--but at just an ounce, it amounts to 16% of a person's daily saturated fat allowance, and 15 grams of sugar.
A classic treat, Reese's peanut butter cups have been shaped to fit every holiday. But the highly-processed peanut filling is full of oils (palm, shea, sunflower), as well as preservatives, like TBHQ, which, in anything other than tiny amounts, can actually be quite dangerous.
Another appearance by Russel Stover. This 180-calorie chocolate-filled chocolate heart packs up to 32% of your daily saturated fat, and is made basically entirely of milk, milk fat, sugar, and preservatives.

I really didn't want to gang up on Russel Stover, but when compared to a similarly-sized box of chocolates by Whitman, Dove, and other makers of fine chocolates, this one was the guilty party.
But it's so cute! And has a shocking 27 grams of sugar.
But with a box of three pieces, you're less likely to finish it off, so this (or something similar) might be your best option if you're dying for a treat, but looking for moderation.
