Good at Life: Soak Your Celery To Make It Last Longer

I used to think the best way to store celery was in tupperware. (I used to think the best way to store everything was in tupperware; my mom was quite the devotee.) Not so! To extend your celery’s shelf life, stick the stalks in an open container (mason jar, water bottle, whatever) about half filled with water before sticking them in the fridge. I was skeptical of this at first (is celery really worth all the trouble?), but it does indeed keep celery fresh and crunchy longer.

This trick is also good for fresh herbs. I can never use a bundle of fresh herbs from the store before they go bad if I leave them in that silly little plastic package, but if I stick them in a glass of water they last for a good month and a half. The trick is remembering to refresh the water periodically.
