Healthy Eating According to Elaine Magee aka the Recipe Doctor

Apple and DietA lot mix up the concept of healthy diet as being synonymous with a weight loss diet. But this blog is a shining example that not all foods that may be good for your health may help in weight reduction. However, I have always believed that if we eat right, in quality and quantity, it shouldn’t be too hard to arrive at a weight that’s optimum for each one of us.

Elaine Magee of Healthy Recipe Doctor shares the same opinion.

An anti-dieting dietitian who believes we should all eat and exercise for “the health of it,” Magee describes herself as “fit, fabulous, and fourteen (size 14, that is).

In an interview published in BlogHer , she talks about the influence of diet and the risks of breast cancer.

There are definitely some things we can do dietwise to decrease our risk of breast cancer like maintaining a reasonable body weight and avoiding high fat, high saturated fat, and choosing smart fats when possible like olive oil, fish, plant foods rich in omega-3s. Also important is to avoid excessive alcohol and to eat plenty of nutrient and phytochemical rich fruits and vegetables and other plant foods (foods rich in carotenoids, vitamin C, isoflavones, and lignans for example). These food steps with also reduce the risk of other cancers, obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure!

She also reiterate steps that help make “eating right” something easy to do. Read the full interview here.

Elaine is also the author of the Tell Me What to Eat series of books:
