Robert Kenner, otherwise known as “the Food, Inc. guy,” is now slamming food labels and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) with his “Just Label It” campaign. The below video, called “Labels Matter,” focuses on two moms—one surrounded by her four children; one extremely pregnant—who argue for the right to know whether the food they feed their kids contains GMOs. It also features a third woman who says she discovered the difficulty of deciphering food labels after she underwent open heart surgery and had to change her diet.
According to the campaign’s website, there is overwhelming demand for food labels alerting consumers to the presence of GMOs, but in the U.S., it’s still not mandatory (in several other countries, it is). Kenner is doing his best to grab our emotions with the image of a mother protecting the health of her kids, but truthfully, this is something that should concern you even if you’re not a parent.

Great post…Like transfats that were finally required to be labeled (as mentioned in the video) hopefully the same thing will happen with GMOs.
I think it is a great video, it is relatively short and offers the need for labeling from several different perspectives.
Thanks Stan! Yeah, I think the campaign is definitely bringing attention to something more of us should be thinking about… Unfortunately, I think GMOs are somewhat harder to sensationalize than some of the issues brought up in Food, Inc., so it’s harder to really grab peoples’ attention. But using Moms and kids to bring home the point of food safety is pretty effective!
