Michelle Obama’s vegetable garden has been making headlines since she 1998, when she first planted vegetables on the White House lawn, and now it’s getting its own book, complete with recipes for the Obamas’ favorite healthy dishes. The First Lady’s first book will be published by Crown Books in April 2012, and will showcase not the details of her impressive crops (she’s grown about 55 varieties of vegetables, plus more herbs and berries) as part of her efforts to educate more people about healthy eating.
The White House garden has been a backdrop for the Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign, but it’s not just for show. The vegetables, herbs, and berries are used by White House chefs to provide meals for the Obama family, an idea that the First Lady says she first considered on the recommendation of her daughters’ pediatrician.
