Mark Haub, a professor at Kansas State University lost 27 pounds over ten weeks. But he didn’t eat healthier to lose the weight. He decreased his daily calorie intake from 2,600 calories to 1,800 calories while eating foods like Twinkies, Oreos, and Doritos. He was trying to prove that calorie intake alone is responsible for weight loss, not the nutritional value of the food you’re eating.
Nice going, Dr. Haub. Every random idiot knows that eating fewer calories will help you lose weight. But minimizing your waistline isn’t the only part of being healthy. Haub says he monitored his cholesterol and blood pressure over the course of the ten weeks. Oddly enough, his good cholesterol increased and his bad cholesterol decreased. While we agree with him that this is perplexing, what would happen if he ate 7-11 fare for years rather than weeks? Eating chiefly junk food for ten weeks is too short a time to speculate about the long term health risks. This experiment is just going to encourage people to head for the Fritos rather than the fruit.
