Top 10 Essential Turkey Tools

Here are all the top 10 essential tools to make the perfect turkey, including all the fixin’s, plus a bonus 2 items to serve it up:

  1. Roasting pan (great one from All-Clad or this cheaper Anodized Nonstick)

  2. Curved Roasting Rack that allows the turkey to fit in well, the fat to drain, and make the turkey easy to remove

  3. Baster with cleaning brush. Silicone basters are better for the hot liquid and last longer than rubber.
  4. Meat Thermometer (tip: take it out a little before the poultry line, as the turkey will keep cooking as it sits to cool)
  5. Oven Thermometer – the right temperature is essential to cook your turkey properly, right through but still moist
  6. The foodloop, or string, to tie the turkey’s legs together
  7. Turkey Lacers to keep the skin flaps tight over the stuffing
  8. Oven Mitts like The Ove Glove or these mitts from Le Creuset
  9. Meat Fork to hold the turkey when carving
  10. Roast Slicer carving knife or Electric Knife to slice up your turkey
  11. Serving Platter (seasonal like this Johnson Brothers English Platter or this Rectangular Serving Dish)
  12. Gravy Boat with Ladle (always so much nicer to have the ladle option)

I think that covers your basic turkey tools, from roasting to carving to serving. If you can think of other essential turkey tools you use, leave a comment!

CBC sunday morning had a program on photograhing the turkey for a gourmet magazine cover. In that program one of the chefs used a hook syle device to lift the turkey from the roasting pan. Does anybody know what this is or where I can get one?
