Perhaps the most well known of the cleanse programs, the Master Cleanse touts a mix of water, lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne. Yum … or not. Martha a 20-something writer and world traveler gave the Master Cleanse a shot. “I tried the master cleanse once years ago. I lasted two days until I felt dizzy and started imagining that I was going to pass out, crack my head on the toilet and be eaten by my cat. Never again.”

The Cabbage Soup Diet is pretty self-explanatory. You eat almost nothing but cabbage soup for days. Each day of the diet allows you to eat some other combination of foods such as fruits or vegetables.
“It’s starvation for a week,” says Shawna, owner of on online toy store. “I use it to jumpstart another diet — I basically go through layers of starvation just to drop some pounds quickly. You do lose water weight, but it doesn’t teach you what to do after you’re done with the cabbage soup. I guess it’s okay for me because I do understand nutrition, but if someone wants to learn how to eat for a lifetime, this isn’t the diet for them.”

Wouldn’t it be lovely to just eat cookies and somehow miraculously lose weight? The Cookie Diet isn’t quite that fun. The cookies are basically meal replacements.
“The Cookie Diet felt like a modified fast,” says Mary Lourdes, communicator, mom and born again health fanatic. “A ‘rehab’ approach. Keeping you from your demons and triggers is an excellent start and this diet packs a punch. It’s not exactly what you do, but the fact that you are doing it. It bought me time to arm myself for the next time I met a demon masquerading as a cupcake.
The Cookie Diet started me on a journey that has basically given me my life back. I lost 9 lbs within the first two weeks. Now, I am on a modified 80/20 Paleo diet combined with a cardio/weightlifting routine.”

If you can’t find the food as is in nature, you can bet it’s not part of the Paleo Diet. Melissa “Melicious” Joulwan, author, blogger, and superhero-in-training lives the paleo lifestyle:
“I went paleo two years ago to fuel CrossFit workouts and to combat complications of having my thyroid removed. Paleo excludes stuff that can cause inflammation and used to be a major part of my diet: grains, dairy, legumes, sugar, soy and alcohol. Now I prefer to talk about what I can eat because it’s super-yummo: all animal proteins, veggies, fruit, and energy-packed fats like coconut oil, olives/olive oil, nuts and avocado. The benefits of paleo appeared in a few weeks and continue: lower body fat, clear skin, shiny hair, sound sleep, easier periods, and PRs (personal records) in the gym. Plus, I can call myself a cavewoman.”

Isagenix is a nutritional cleansing program, the basic theory being that you drink their cleansing drinks and nutritional shakes and then adhere to a suggested diet plan. Anna, a writer, had a good experience with Isagenix:
“Overall, I was happy with the Isagenix plan. It forced me to eat better, eliminating sugar and salt from my diet. The diet also taught me portion control and how to pay attention to my body. I lost 20 lbs, felt and looked better, and would recommend the diet to anyone who needs a drastic change in their lifestyle. The only issue I had with the plan is that it didn't taste all that great and it became tiresome over the weeks of having to deprive myself of the foods I loved.”
