Perhaps you found me here because you read Wine Outlook. In that case, welcome to Behind the Vines and thank you for tracking me down. I couldn’t be more flattered. Well, unless you were Jancis Robinson and you were reading my blog.
If you do already know me, feel free to skip ahead. The plan is to introduce myself and get started with some reposting and reworking of earlier writings, often repictured. Looking back over my older stuff, I realized how bad the lighting was before I got another camera, despite my attempts at staging.
If you’ve just stumbled upon me for the first time, allow me to give you the quicker version. My name is Farley Walker. I grew up in Mississippi and didn’t begin drinking wine until I got into college and worked at a wonderful Italian restaurant with a long wine list. An obsession shortly followed– from drinking to reading to writing. I’ve been in California since January 2006, first working at Thomas Fogarty Winery as a Jill of all trades and now at Rosenblum Cellars as the assistant manager of the tasting room. Wine literally is my life. It takes up all day at work and the majority of my free time. I love to go wine tasting, to plan pairing dinners, to browse the shelves of wine shops. I might not be able to remember details about particular regions, but I’m living it. Sorta hobby meets career.
As with most people, I have my favorites. Sparkling, Petite Sirah, Sauvignon Blanc, to name a few. But there was a time I didn’t like bubbly or Chardonnay or Merlot. Then I realized tastes change and preferences shift and the cycle starts over again. So I give every wine a chance and then later on another.
I love to learn about wine and share what I know, so here’s to raising glasses in the name of research.

Hi, Farley!
I just discovered your blog and enjoyed it enough that I spent more time than I had reading. Next time you are home, I would love for you to come by our shop. We moved home last spring and opened in May. Keep up the good work!
Cheers,
Scott

Hi Farley – I just realized you worked at Rosenblum – so sorry I didn’t stop by when I was in Sonoma in October! I promise to stop by on the next trip…
