30 Day Shred Challenge

On the recommendation of my friend, I tried Jillian Michaels’ (of The Biggest Loser) 30 Day Shred workout. It has three levels that go according to difficulty. Not including the warm up part, the whole thing lasts 20 minutes and is structured in 3-2-1. Three minutes of strength, two minutes of cardio and one minute abs. Sounds simple enough, right? Wrong, wrong, so very wrong. The thing is you can’t stop, you have to move from one segment to the next without stopping. I mean I guess if you are about to pass out or really need to rest you can stop but for optimum results you need to not stop.

After doing the workout just twice, I can say that this is one of the best workouts I have ever tried. It’s simple and straightforward but it gets the job done. She’s not all perky and wearing a hot pink leotard or anything. She’s there to help with a minimum of dialog. My only negative conclusion is that I HATE THIS WOMAN. I mean in a good way, sort of. Like the math teacher in middle school that was really tough but in hindsight really respect and appreciate the fact that she was hard on you. Kinda like that.

So who’s in with me? I’ve decided that I’m going to give this a try for 30 days to really see if it works. There’s even part of the cardio where you are fake jump roping but I actually used my jump rope since I’ve been really into lately. 20 minutes a day for 30 days is not much to ask. I’m going to give myself a break if I miss a day or two but I need other participants. When I asked my husband if he would join me I swear I heard an expletive and a chuckle under his breath. He politely declined. Of course exercise alone won’t fix everything, I will also have to watch my snacking and I am cutting out my wine…sob. All that sugar is not helping my quest either. Do I have takers?

Just started the 30 day shred March 1st , I am able to do it all but then and I thought I was in good shape. I cross country ski or bike at least 1 1/2 hours per day weather permitting. Surprise, surprise I am not in such great shape… my arms really got a work out, I started using 5 lb weights, and felt like ny arms weighed 400 lbs each after the first day and I really can feel every thing firming up even my eyeballs … today will be my 3rd day and this is one of best exercise DVD’s I have ever used. Yup, Jillian is a task master… and a I enjoy her comments sarcastic or not. I did measure and weigh myself and will check on it after one week to see if there is a differnce… I also ran 2 miles afterwards after the second day on a treadmill. I would love to lose 20 lbs but that might be a stretch… I must be nuts. I am 57 years young.

And my other question is, can I workout around 5PM? I work since 7.30 AM, so it would be hard to work out in the morning.

    Hi.

I’m new to the 30 Day Shred. Just wanted to know how do you workout to this DVD. It’s 3 level workout, but do you do one level for, let’s say a week, then level 2 and 3? Or you do the workout 1, 2 and 3 one by one everyday? How does the program work?
    Looking forward to an answer!

    Regards,
    Kate

    Hi Everyone

I just got this DVD, and I will be starting Sunday morning. I am 33, female, and have 15 pounds to lose. I am not overweight, but I would like to be fit as a fiddle as I was in my past. I would like to gain my energy back, and recharge my life like no other. My working commute and lifestyle has left me pudgy, drained and with inadequate personal time. Jillian Michaels is the solution, 20min-30mins is the most perfect, focussed program I have been looking for. I will also be changing my diet to a balanced one, closely modeled after the Zone diet, which I have done before and have felt tremendous goodness and energy from.

    Who is with me?

I’ve been doinmg 30 day shred just under a week! I almost died on my second day. I was wondering should you move up a level each week or should you add another level on top of the one you were doing previous to that week? My goal of this dvd is to get toned. And would any of you recommend a spasific level if you want to burn more calories. Please let me know.

Day 2 of the 30-Day Shred Challenge: After doing barely surviving the 1st day, I was literally limping the entire day. I was contemplating if I would do the Day 2 and I’m glad I did. I finished Day 2 and I’m not sore at all. I couldn’t wait to finish the challenge. I just hate the cardio part, cause I was panting the entire time. Wish me luck guys.

I am wondering if this workout dvd is the same as the workouts in her book – “Making the Cut”. I is also a 30 day diet and workout plan. It has five circuts for each day. The first day is a combination of stuff like Dumbbell presses, squats, planks, push-ups, burpies, dips, tricep press, with some cardio build in after each circut! Does this sound similar to the dvd?

your husband may change his mind. my wife had been doing this for a few weeks, and she doesn’t need to lose weight, but i noticed she is more toned; i laughed at the idea of working out to a woman video at first; but, i decided to give it a try, and i’ve done it 6 times in 6 days, resting one day, worked out twice today. i’ve never done a workout on tape or dvd, but decided to try this because it isn’t too girly; it is half strenghth. i use 8lb weights but should probably up it to 15 or 20 on some of the strength parts. i weigh 220 at 6 foot, hoping to get down under 200; maybe after 90 days i’ll get there. haven’t lost weight yet, but i can tell my endurance is way up.

hi all…i have decided to do the 30 day shred and all the 3 steps, i will kick my old habits of very unhealthy eating out the window, and i will stick to this untill i am at my dream weight which is 140 lbs. I currently weigh 198-200 lbs. i plan on reaching this goal by the beginning of november because thats when im going back to kenya to visit my father and sister. I believe in my self after all the motivating comments i’ve been reading.

  13. Laura

  14. Paige

I have done this workout on level 1 for 8 days and ive seen good results in my body and pant sizes! Im really excited to see more and more results. Im going to start Level 2 soon.

I absolutely love this workout DVD although i havent tried all 3 videos. It deffinately gets you sweating.

I recommend this DVD to anyone who wants to loose weight and/or tone up their body.

I’ve been doing this workout for 2 weeks now and I alternate days. Wow! I have seen significant results and this workout has given me the confidence that I need to lose weight! Yes it is hard at first but eventually the pain goes away. I weigh’d 230 lbs when I started and now I am 220 lbs. I have incorporated better eating habits but it could be better but I don’t want to binge so I am taking it slow. All I can say is if your serious about losing weight and are willing to work hard and see fast result this is the workout for you but if you don’t want to work hard and want it handed to you then look elsewhere because she will kick you butt hard…believe me I could hardly move after the first workout.

The wife and I have started the 30 day shred two week’s ago. I was a little embarressed being a guy trying this out but after the work out I felt I was more worn out than the wife. So far I have lost 11lbs and the wife 4lbs ( she was already 124lbs ( 5′2″ ). I also have been going to the gym doing 60 minutes on the tredmill ( 3.5 speed walking 12 incline ). So really doing this and gym along with limiting my calorie intake to 1500-1800 a day, which was hard. But as for this 20 minutes, it’s the shaping factor in my weight loss. I can say I have yelled at Jillian many times but in the end like many of you have said, it’s a good thing in the end. I am in the Air Force and have recommended this to my physical training leader.

I started the 30 day shred a little over a month ago. I found it on On Demand for Comcast. It took me about two weeks to feel strong enough to move to level 2, but let me tell you …. I have received compliments on my arms! I also had major knee and sciatic nerve problems so I took it real slow and followed Anita for quite awhile. After not going into full lunges after 3 weeks I can now do it comfortably and my sciatic nerve is not bothering me. (I also stretch often). I started level 3 today and I thought it was sooooo easy. I was doing them most days of the week but some days I would do her Boost Metabolism (no weights) or Quick Trouble Zones (all weights). And if I do Level 2 and feel I need more! then I do level one as well. I still struggle with “real” pushups , but I feel that’s ok and I just do more throughout the day :) I FEEL GREAT – after one month!!! Now I just need to find something else more challenging :)

I have had this dvd for a couple of months, and was doing it every few days because it is sooo tough. I wasn’t seeing any results, but I also wasn’t being consistent with it either. I was recently inspired by all the great things I was reading about the workout and decided to take it on full speed ahead. I am currently on day 5 of the shred, and I love it! Yes, I do sometimes yell at Jillian and I am often in pain during the workout, but it is getting a lot easier with each day that I stick to it. At first I was in terrible, horrible pain, I mean I could hardly walk. But now, after only 5 days I feel good, very slight soreness (the good kind) in a few places but generally I feel great. I already see results, my body feels much tighter all over and I feel stronger. I love how it seems that Jillian can sense when I’m getting tired and she says something motivating right when I need it! That really does help keep me going! My only complaint is that I don’t feel like my abs are getting enough of a workout. I don’t have strong abs, and I am very tired during the bicycle crunches at the end, but all in all, my abs have not been sore at all. I started supplementing my workouts with some extra abs moves yesterday, so hopefully that helps. I definitely recommend this dvd, I love it, and am seeing amazing results already!
