It is the start of the summer beach-going season, and if there is one place that Charlie loves it is the ocean. Charlie gets beachsick for much of the year.
And right now he is all anxiety. We are off to meet friends at a lake “down the shore”: With that deep love of the ocean is also a dreadful sorrow connected, I think, with having to leave it.
I hope this summer we can help Charlie to know that when we say “we’ll be back,” we really mean it.

Charlie did great—we were at a lake, much gentler water and a smaller swimming area. He was happy as every just to immerse himself in the water (he got rather into the muddy, sandy bottom)—we stayed for 2 1/2 hours and he left happy, if sandy.
liveparents—-the GW bridge, the Skyway, 1 & 9……. I do feel at home once I’m on the Parkway…..
Joey loves the beach, too. Last year we made a little movie, and he’d watch it all day, every day if we let him. We usually go in May, but this year money is tight (all these new therapies…) and Allan has a new job, so can’t take any time off yet.I hope we get to go in the fall!
I always forget that the phrase ‘down the shore’ is not a unirversally used statement. Just like word “The” in front of any of these words: Parkway, Turnpike, Bridge, or City for that matter. If you’re in Jersey, you just know what they mean….
