Does Weight Affect Dating?

I recently did a radio show where a woman called in about problems she was having with online dating. She said she worked out and wasn’t fat, but she wasn’t stick skinny either and felt that this had something to do with her dating problems. Her question was: Is it my weight?

My answer? No way. Here’s the surprising thing about attraction, it comes from inside. At least, the kind of attraction that means anything. Seriously, have you ever seen a gorgeous guy or girl and then started talking to them, only to be disappointed because they: were boring, lacked a sense of humor, were immature, etc.? Someone with great looks can’t maintain interest if they don’t have some personality to go along with it.

With online dating, you need to put up pictures of what you look like right now. Not what you looked like five years ago, but right now. So someone you meet for a coffee date shouldn’t be surprised when they see you. Even with that, however, you need to have a personality. After all, you have to email your match, meet them over coffee, and be interesting enough to get a real date with them.

So, does weight affect dating? Not really. Know what does? Being self-conscious. Acting like you’re not good enough. Acting like a bore because you are so concerned with your body that you can’t relax and have fun. Those are the things that affect dating. So work out, be healthy, take care of yourself because it’s good for you and you will feel so much better doing that. Don’t do it because you think it will get you a date.
