neurosis:
“a mental and emotional disorder that affects only part of the personality, is accompanied by a less distorted perception of reality than in a psychosis, does not result in disturbance of the use of language, and is accompanied by various physical, physiological, and mental disturbances (as visceral symptoms, anxieties, or phobias)” (Merriam-Webster).
I used to behave in a neurotic fashion when I was younger. Not so much anymore. These days, behavior that may seem neurotic is actually more obsessive-compulsive behavior – for me, that is. I don’t know what changed, and I don’t really care – I’m better at managing the OCD stuff!
In any event, I wanted to pass along this interesting site: i am neurotic.
Like the site I told you about yesterday, Get Over It, i am neurotic allows you to submit your own neurotic behavior (and is bizarrely an interesting read when you’re bored). Unlike Get Over It, however, i am neurotic seems to be regularly kept up to date (which is a good thing).
If you suspect you suffer from neurosis and want to know for sure, naturally you need to see a mental health professional. In the meantime, however, try taking The Neuroses Psychology Test – you know, for entertainment purposes.
According to the test, I am “slightly neurotic, and fairly enlightened as well.”
Well, what do ya know?
