My mother was diagnosed last year, on Mother’s Day no less, with ovarian cancer. She had surgery and is now receiving chemotherapy. My words of encourage to her are…never, never give up. There are new treatments every day. You need to be an active advocate in your own health by drinking plenty of fluids, eating small meals throughout the day and have some regular activity. The most important thing I tell her is to HAVE FAITH and ENJOY LIFE!! There is nothing more important than this. Good luck to all of you that are at war with this wretched disease. My prayers are with you.

I was recently diagnosed (4 months ago) at age 36 with Ovarian cancer. I had 3 football size tumors and had no idea- I am now undergoing treatment (chemo) and it’s tough as I have 2 small kids ages 6 and 9. One who does not really get it and one who does and is scared, yet brave. I’d love to have this bracelet as a sign of hope that this divorced single mom of two with full custody of the kids will be here to see them grow up- I wonder what I can do as just one person to help with this awareness cause- thanks- Jaina

My tip would be to visit your OBGYN on a regular basis. I get a yearly PAP smear.

Gardening is great exercise for anyone but especially older adults. You’re active outdoors, get fresh air, and enjoy the beauty of your creations. I also grow my own food.

See a doctor and get a mammogram! Exercise and diet certainly helps but you need to see a doctor to find out if you have cancer or other health problems. One of our friends thought she was healthy until my mother told her to get a mammogram after discovering that she hadn’t been to a doctor in years. Several months later our friend found out she had breast cancer. My mother’s advice saved her life!
