Earlier today I wrote about the need for services for autistic adults as the big concern on my mind. This story about a home-care worker caught on video slamming a plastic ball and plastic hammer into the head of an autistic man says why.

I think that’s the bigger problem, indeed.
Won’t watch the video. As much as I hear about stories like this, I am always shocked at the depths people will sink to. What is wrong with these people? And they say OUR kids have issues?
I cannot watch it. The subject sickens me so much. Have worked with individuals with mental and physical disabilities for over 25 years. I can only do what I can do.
Pretty scary.

Had not heard of that—are there any other resources you might apply to?
Thankfully the video was not at that story, did not really want to see it. A $5,000 bond is nothing and what is that saying? Good thinking on the part of the family. Someone needs to be older than 24 to provide care. That is too young and inexperienced.
Did you hear about CA Gov and his executive order today? He cut the pay rate for state workers – which includes us home health care workers thru IHSS program to federal min wage of $6.55 per hr. I will lose $478 per month now. This is to balance the state budget and eventually we will get it back. That means many adults who get services from non family members will probably lose those workers as they will have to go look elsewhere for work.
