Mood Music Made Easy From YouLicense.com

Music is a powerful tool. I’ve written about it once or twice. I even gave it away, once.

Even as a writer, I’m always looking for music to set the mood – to help take me out of whatever is going on here in my world and relocate me in the world of my characters.

Imagine my delight when I found YouLicense.com’s What Mood Are You In?

YouLicense.com is a Web site that helps people both find and offer music. Unless you’re a musician (and maybe you are – I don’t know), what you’ll be most interested in is the What Mood Are You In? feature.

You can choose from eight different moods (happy, sad, hypnotic, romantic, mysterious, doubtful, cool, and angry) complete with appropriate “faces” on yellow Post It-type notes), and then sit back as the music enhances your mood.

If your mood is sad, doubtful, or angry, you may not want to enhance it. You may want to choose one of the more pleasant moods to try to lift your spirits or calm down.

Of course, on days I’m feeling particularly full of rage, even I like to throw on a little Slipknot and ride it out.

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

  1. @ Ken – “I don’t usually have any connection directly to what the song’s about and yet the message feels right.”

    Ah! Me too!

I know there’s often some negative connotations with listening to hard stuff, but I can’t help it. I can’t give it up. I just can’t! Hahaha.

Love your mention of Slipknot and why! As I rebuilt myself from what I was, into what I now am (a much better human being on all fronts), I sometimes wondered about my unflagging support of Heavy Metal. I’ll be forty in a couple months and it just doesn’t wear off.

Granted, I have whittled it down as less of my old bands appeal to me like they once did, and the kids of today seem better able to make music that just hits that nerve in my head as only Metal can (think of a dog who starts digging with his hind leg when his “sweet spot” is scratched.)

But as someone who’s strived to be more kind, more helpful, more positive, and well-adjusted, I began to question why Metal still hung on in my psyche with all its negative messages and violent overtones.

I searched my soul and discovered that I still like Metal for the whole “anti-conformist” sensations it conjurs, which still rule my thinking to this day, and the energy within it that propels me through slow times when I need it (particularly on my way to the gym.)

I long ago stopped analysing this part of me and decided to “go with the flow” and rock out when I need to. It’s a paradox. I don’t usually have any connection directly to what the song’s about and yet the message feels right.

I know that there is an element of “garbage in – garbage out” even if I’m not consciously aware of it but…when I want my Metal, I want my metal!

  4. @ George – It is pretty cool overall, isn’t it? I’ve gotten so wrapped up in the mood feature though (trying to check out every single song under each mood, haha) that I haven’t spent a whole lot of time getting familiar with the other features.

  5. @ Hope – No problem :) I really liked it, too.

    Nice find, thanks!
I’m loving the whole site not only the moodfeature.
