The best place to go to get information about the growing peanut butter recall in the US is the FDA’s website. It contains the most recent additions.
Breaking News Today: The contamination from the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) stretches back to January 2007.
As of right now, typical jars of peanut butter sold in your grocery store haven’t been found to contain Salmonella Typhimurium. PCA doesn’t sell directly to consumers. The problems are occurring with peanut butter sold in bulk containers. And even more scary, that same peanut butter is used as an ingredient in various cookies, crackers, cereal, candy and ice cream!
As you may know, pet food has also been affected. A recent release from PCA cautions how this may be dangerous to humans as well:
Because some of our peanut products have been used by manufacturers of pet food, we are also alerting the public that Salmonella is an organism that can potentially be transferred to people handling pet treats exposed to Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.
Protect yourself by checking the list of recalled products provided by the FDA. If you’re still wondering about a product’s safety, try calling the company’s hotline number often listed on the product.
And, it’s true that it’s better to be safe than sorry.
If you don’t know if your product is safe to consume, get rid of it. The FDA cautions that you should throw away contaminated food in such a way that no other person or animal may eat it.
Have you been personally affected by this peanut butter recall?

Seriously, what’s next? No one seems to be safe anymore. I miss my peanut butter, some people love their chocolate… I love my peanut butter.
Hi Peggy,
I’m just really upset about this.
They’re saying that PCA knew about the Salmonella and shipped it anyway.
Thanks for your reply.
Hi Caroline. I hope PCA didn’t really, really want to hurt anyone. Who knows why they covered this up. Money?
You know what? What’s the difference between putting salmonella in the food supply and bioterrorism?
