Pros and Cons of Online Dating

Online dating is a great way to meet new people. I can personally attest to that. If you’re thinking of whether or not you should try online dating, here are a few pros and cons.

Pro: It introduces you to a variety of people

Let’s face it, you can live by someone, work by them, and even hang out at the same places they do, and even so never meet them. Online dating introduces you to people you couldn’t have connected with on your own.

Con: It introduces you to people, but you still have to get to know them

Online dating lures singles into a false sense of security at times. People can email, look at pictures, and even talk on the phone before meeting. All of this might seem as if you know the person, but you don’t. Online dating is an introduction only so you still have to do the work of finding out if they are right for you.

Pro: Online dating works with your schedule

Regardless if you work ten hour days, second shift, or not at all, online dating is there whenever you have time. You send emails on your time, not someone else’s.

Con: There’s still a stigma

Online dating is still “the great unknown” of the dating world. People may turn up their nose at you when you tell them you’re online. They shouldn’t. It’s stupid if they do, but the reality is you may have to defend yourself if you’re online.

Despite the cons, online dating is the perfect way to get introduced to someone new. Everyone has fears about something they haven’t done, so don’t let the naysayers deter you. Log on and find your match!
