What you probably didn't know about the newborn brain...

According to the March of Dimes, a baby’s brain at 35 weeks weighs only two-thirds of what it will weigh at 40 weeks. That difference is significant given the very large numbers of so-called late preemies, those born between 34 and 37 weeks gestation.

Right on the heels of my post Why you shouldn’t rush your due date, I found this article (Surgeon general meeting aims to lower preterm birth) about the Surgeon General’s office investigation into why so many babies are being born a few weeks before their due date. The article says, “”Most women are not really aware of how two to three weeks can make a big difference in the full development of the baby,” says March of Dimes President Dr. Jennifer Howse.”

The article is very informative.

this is completely contrary to what my doctor told me. he said at 8 months, a baby was pretty much “set” to what he/should would be.. now i’m confused.
