Results from a Wall Street Journal Online/Harris Interactive poll of 3,091 U.S. adults:
Have you ever had a genetic test to study your DNA?
- Yes, have had a DNA test – 5%
- No, have not – 95%
Those numbers will probably flip in 10 years.
Thankfully, 93% believe the science of genetics is “a good thing” or “very good thing.” Clearly, people are eager to embrace technology as long as it doesn’t bite them back. To ensure that we make the best use of genetic testing, we’ve got to stay informed. Or else the politicians are the ones who will be biting the empowered patient-consumer instead.
