The attack on America’s schools continues. A lot of people have already reported this and if you haven’t heard by now then you live in a closet somewhere. The shootings at Virginia Tech yesterday killed 32 people.
The trend continues which first seemed to kick off back at the Columbine High School Massacre. Most likely if you are reading this you are a parent and probably have children in school or soon to be. I hate to sound so pessimistic but the realities of shootings like this seem to be the newest trend… maybe in the last 7 or 8 years. More than likely we haven’t seen the end of this sort of thing. Do you move forward as if nothing would happen to you and your children? Can you really prepare for this sort of disaster?
We all know anti-gun groups will use this as some sort of leverage to try and pry guns from society as if there were a law then these shooters wouldn’t be able to use deadly force. Those who are not absently minded know that people who are disturbed enough to shoot classmates, teachers and faculty, and then only to turn and take their own lives aren’t really paying attention to laws and abiding by them.
So getting rid of guns will only hurt the law abiding citizens while the mentally disturbed will continue to kill regardless of man made laws.
So, as a parent, what is your reaction to this massacre and how do we educate our own kids on this? I bet up until yesterday morning those victims who were killed yesterday and their families didn’t ever think this sort of thing would ever happen to them. It was just something they saw happen in Columbine, and a few remote locations such as Amish Country. I bet a lot of people after hearing about the Amish shooting last Fall did a Google search for Amish, not really knowing who and what the Amish people were about.
My point being is these people had no idea it was about to happen to them. So how do we take action? Or can we?
