Ahh, life across the pond. Apparently, single mothers have it good over in the U.K., where a single mother of five has been moved into a five bedroom home that’s worth £1m… and taxpayers will be footing the bill.
One of the biggest problems I’ve been facing in my own single motherness is being in an inbetween state. Not making quite enough money to make ends meet, but not making so little that I can avail myself of any social services. It’s those of us who are stuck there in that financial no-man’s land who have it bad. A single mother, whose mom just gave her some money to help with a a home repair really made me think, when she said she was afraid she’d never be in the same position to help her daughter, down the road.
This economy is going to get worse before it gets better. I’ll be praying that we single mothers don’t fall to far through the cracks.

O.k. I’ve been behind on the posts but this one just hit home for me. I am so frustrated that I have to ask my mother to assist w/ childcare b/c I don’t have enough $$ every other week. I have a decent job but as you stated, make too much for assist. but not enough to make a dent into anything. My child is growing like a weed and I can’t afford decent shoes for her (we won’t even talk about what I’m wearing these days). We’re the families that wouldn’t lean on the gov’t to feed/raise our kids but just need a little break to be able to breathe financially instead of digging deeper financial holes to care for our families.
