Today is America Recycles Day, a day dedicated by the EPA to educate communities about recycling and reducing waste. Events are taking place around the country today with the hopes of making people in your community more effective recyclers every day of the year. Chances are, there is a recycling drive happening today in your area. Check out these recycling events happening this week around the country.
1. Indianapolis, IN
Green Piece Indy is hosting Rush Hour Recycling every morning this week. Taking place from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at various locations, Green Piece Indy will be accepting your hard to recycle items like laptops, VCRs, and, of course, laser disc players.
2. Citrus Heights, CA
Bring your old electronics batteries to Battery Plus (8025A Greenback Lane) to safely recycle them. You can also get $10 off a new laptop battery in exchange for the old one, and $5 off a cell phone battery in exchange for a used one.
3. Jacksonville, FL
Bring your sensitive documents to be shredded then recycled, and don’t forget any old cell phones. This event is taking place from 2:00-6:00 p.m. today on the west side of the Prime Osborn Convention Center.
4. Skokie, IL
The Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County is presenting the 4th annual Trashy Fashion Show in honor of America Recycles Day, and to raise awareness about wastefulness. The free event will be held on November 18 at the Holiday Inn Express Skokie, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Email info@swancc.org to make a reservation.
5. Austin, TX
Bring your plastic bags to Live Oak Pharmacy today until 7:00 p.m. to receive a reusable grocery bag. You can also bring in unused or expired medications to the pharmacy to safely dispose of them.
6. Kennesaw, GA
Bring your alkaline, automotive, and rechargeable batteries to Interstate All Battery Center (2649 North Cobb Parkway) any day this week until 6:00 p.m.
7. Baltimore, MD
Head out to Morgan State University tonight to get some information about going green. The forum will be held from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Harper Tubman Dean Bando Lounge (1700 E Cold Spring Lane).
8. Phoenix, AZ
Come to the Phoenix City Hall (200 West Washington) from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to learn about recycling programs and initiatives that you can participate in all year long.
9. Los Angeles, CA
Bring your e-waste, light bulbs, and batteries to Nokia Plaza (1111 South Figueroa Street) until 7:30 p.m. today. If you get there between 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., you’ll be able to take part in the Recycling Education Fair.
10. Seattle, WA
Drop your gently used clothing, furniture, books, and household items to St. Vincent De Paul thrift store locations all day today.
11. St. Louis, MO
Head to Wells Fargo St. Louis (2801 Market St.) until 2:00 p.m. today to find out what you can recycle and learn about alternative recycling programs.
12. Garden City, NY
Bring your recyclable glass, plastic, and aluminum containers to Roosevelt Field Mall (630 Old Country Road) until 5:00 p.m. today.
National Events
13. Bring your old tee shirts to a Disney Store near you for a discount. The shirts will be recycled and made into paper.
14. Visit Green Peak Imaging’s website to print out a free shipping label. You can send in any printer or cartridge for recycling.
15. Sony is sponsoring electronics recycling at six locations across the country.
