The blogosphere is having a quiet field day with the breakup of teen parent posterchildren Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston and the recent announcement that the teen, single mother will be advocating for the Candie’s Foundation to prevent teen pregnancy.
Whew. Turning an accident into a career. I know we all like to have important faces attached to causes, and with Bristol’s mother parading her daughter around on the campaign trail, the girl’s life and decisions don’t entirely belong to her anymore. I hope she does good work. I hope her elevation to teen mom spokesperson status doesn’t reinforce the strange perception that teen momdom is cool.
And I hope that the Palins, and the media, will keep in mind that the child’s health, happiness and welbeing are ultimately at stake here. And that they will all keep in mind that Bristol still falls into that category, too.
