What are we feeding our youth? Could it be we let electronics baby sit our kids? Both?
What makes me angry about this entire obesity problem is that the parents aren’t doing anything about it. Why? Are they living in such denial that they can’t see their own kids have a weight problem? I understand each situation is different and some kids have genetically inherited bad obesity genes. But let’s face it, this country is getting fatter and fatter and we know why. More Big Macs and less activity.
Kids play video games and snack on sugar and crap all the day long while the parent runs to and fro.
Well over at Inside Motherhood, there is talks about a 7 year old child who is 245 pounds and has been taken into custody.
Some are crying out that this is wrong and others are appraising it. So is this too much government involvement or is the a true act of cruelty or neglect on the side of the parent who allowed the child to become so enormous in volume that surgery is needed?

Steve, I definately think it was time for the authorities to step in. If this woman was supplying drugs or alcohol or cigarettes to her 7 year old the authorities would step in.
What she is doing is giving her child an addiction to food. There are 12 step programs for eating, just as there are for drinking.
Plus, there are just as many health risks to this type of obesity as there are to drug addiction. I would think the state should have been notified before 300 pounds started looking like a possible reality.
The whole family obviously needs therapy and to learn to skills to cope with life. Having once been dependent on anti-anxiety medication I know it is hard to develop new coping skills, but I also know it can be done. http://traceesioux.blogspot.com/2007/03/between-covers.html

Something to think about:
If the kid wasn’t being fed enough no one would be questioning the state stepping in. Over feeding will have the same effect as undernourishment.
