Corn Starch — the Powder with Many Uses

Corn starch does more than just thicken your chocolate pudding. It has several personal uses and can handy for household tricks.

According to Hodgson Mill, corn starch can even be used as an underarm deodorant. They recommend using alcohol to remove bacteria then applying cornstarch to the underarm area. They don’t specify how to apply the corn starch, but I’m guessing something like a makeup brush would get the job done. Hodgson Mill also suggests using corn starch as a facial powder to absorb excess oil. They cautioned, “Remember to use sparingly as Corn Starch can make face look white.” Yes, I’d think so too!

For getting rid of grease stains on wallpaper, Hodgson Mill suggests making a paste of corn starch and water, then rubbing the stained area with a soft cloth. And you’d also be wise to test the paste in an inconspicuous area first. Hodgson Mill recommends cleaning stuffed animals with corn starch too. Rub the corn starch in, allow to sit, then brush off.

A mildewy book? The corn starch experts recommend lightly sprinkling with corn starch, and allowing the book to rest for a few hours before wiping and shaking clean. Moving outside… to absorb grease or oil in the driveway or garage, apply corn starch.
