Easy Crock Pot Hash for Dinner

I’m not sure how I could get through a day without using my crock pot. It’s a huge help in getting a hot meal on the table when days are busy. Like Mondays, when all the work I’ve neglected from the weekend comes creeping back into my schedule.

One meal I like to make in the crock pot is hash, or a combination of potatoes and meat. The great thing about this meal is you can be creative, and use various meats and flavors. Following are some staples I keep on hand so I can create a quick meal at the last minute.
I keep some of these ingredients in the fridge, pantry, or freezer for use in a quick crock pot meal.

Staples

  • Potatoes
  • Onions
  • Chicken Breasts
  • Pork Chops
  • Hamburger
  • Beef
  • Cream Soups (various kinds)
  • Frozen veggies

With the above ingredients, you can make several variations of the following meals. I keep the cream soups in the pantry and the meats and veggies in the freezer, and I just pull them out to thaw for a bit before I add them to the crock pot.

Hash

To make various types of hash, peel potatoes and cut into quarters. Put in the bottom of the crock pot. Dice one onion and place over that. Salt and pepper the ingredients. Place your meat (chicken, pork chops, beef, or hamburger) on top of that. Pour cream soup over all.

Choose the cream soup based on your meat. For example, cream of chicken goes best with chicken, while cream of mushroom tends to work better with beef. Cream of celery is a nice compliment with pork chops.

Cook on high for four hours or low for eight hours. About fifteen minutes before serving, add a cup and a half of frozen vegetables. Again, this is a matter of taste. Peas and corn go well with many different types of dishes, but sometimes you might want to use broccoli, carrots, or cauliflower. The vegetables basically sit on top and are steamed until done. When the veggies are done, so is the dinner.

Serve.
