Today is Friday and that means it’s Freaky Friday. If you need to know more about this journal writing challenge please read the First Freaky Friday entry.
Today I read an article about how a Nigerian born writing student has developed an exhibition called Changing Perspectives. The UK exhibition, Streams of the Soul, makes use of creative writing, photography and film-making to relate the stories 25 families with similar backgrounds to his own. I loved the idea on reading this. It’s definitely an exhibition I’d see if only I could.
Use this idea today to write in your journal about your own family background. If you need to, step into the shoes of one of your own descendants and write the entry from their perspective. It doesn’t matter if you know very little about the real stories. Just write from your imagination about arriving in a new country, how it felt to leave the place once known as home, etc. Focus on emotion and the mammoth task of leaving one country for another. If this journal writing challenge leaves you with questions about your family background list what it is you want to know and start asking family members or doing your own research.
I hope you enjoy this journal writing challenge. Please leave any comments in the section below.

No worrie, Eileen. I wouldn’t want to miss comments from you.
It did seem that something was wrong. That’s why I posted twice. LOL!
Hi Eileen,
Yeah, I was thrilled to read about this guy’s idea. Apparently there will be a website, but I couldn’t find it. I’m going to look again and add it when I’ve got it. Thanks for your comments. For some reason they went through the spam filter. Sorry about that, but I’m glad I noticed them.

I’ve done a lot of research on my family tree and often wondered what it must have been like for the immigrants. This is a great idea to help flesh the story out.
What a nice idea. I’ve done a lot of research on my family tree and have often wondered how it must have been for the immigrants.
