Go Fair Trade & Organic with Your Naners

Fair Trade leaders Equal Exchange — makers of my favorite hot cocoa — have now gone bananas.

Equal Exchange is asking you to “join the banana revolution.” At Beyond the Peel, you can learn more about why Fair Trade bananas are important.

Why a banana revolution?

Equal Exchange has been hard at work for 20 years in the chocolate, coffee and tea worlds, but the workers (and communities) behind bananas deserve better too. That’s why the company is now offering Fair Trade and organic bananas. It’s part of a fight to help reform the banana industry, bringing control back into the hands of small farmers. Read more about Equal Exchange’s partners, the history-making El Guabo co-op of 450 banana farmers in Ecuador.

We deserve bananas that are grown in a way that’s kind to the environment, and the small farmers deserve to be paid a fair price for their work. Fair Trade also allows farmers to help their communities with programs for education, health care and environmental projects.

Have you seen bananas with the Equal Exchange sticker?

    Peggy,
Thank you for telling folks about us. I’d like to “forward” the favor by giving a shout out to EquiCosta, a mother/daughter dynamic duo in Quebec who are importing organic Fair Trade bananas into the Canadian market. http://www.equicosta.com/en

I’ve bought organic bananas before, but I don’t know about fair trade or equal exchange.
