Last year, my upstairs neighbors had the most wonderful party, a combo Chanukah-Diwali party, a festival of lights, indeed. This year, Chanukah falls on the eve of the winter solstice, that longest night of the year where light is most needed, to remind the earth to continue to turn and roll towards the longest day. Welcome the Yule, welcome Chanukah, welcome light into your home tonight, and every night.
I wish you all peace, and light, and hope against the darkness. Stay warm in the snow, cool in the desert, and all good things everywhere in between.
There’s a meme going around in which I’ll invite you all to participate, (link back or leave me a comment so I know you’ve done it and can link in turn): On each of these next eight nights, post about something that makes you happy:
First night: having enough to celebrate the season with, this year. I’m grateful that I can buy what I need, pay my bills, treat my friends to something pretty. I’m so grateful that I can do this, that I have a job, that I’m not being laid off or unemployed in this market. As a single mother living on a single income with a child, this is such a great thing to have.
