Happy Father's Day, mom

What did you ladies do to celebrate? I worked!

Well, that’s what fathers do, right? They work.

But if you’re lucky, you’ll have a father who plays, and rides bikes, and cleans a little. Someone who cooks even when it’s too cold to grill and gets home in time for dinner, even if he has to go back to the office afterwards.

Let’s not forget the grandfathers in our children’s lives. Grandfathers can offer a stable, reliable male presence in a child’s life. If you don’t have a good relationship with your own father, now’s the time to start mending fences.

Or,  you can just read this sweet little article about a single father who celebrates Mother’s Day and Father’s Day with his two daughters.

Kelly, you’re so brave. Please let me know how it goes. I can’t imagine what you must be going through right now, let alone your daughter’s thoughts!

best of luck. I hope there’s a happy ending for everyone.

This year I celebrated Father’s Day by being home with the flu. Yuck. So I’m taking my dad out to dinner this weekend. He has always been the recipient of Father’s Day gifts from my daughter and he always will, but this year was the first time she has also sent her dad anything. Until several months ago, he had no interest in her. He has recently shown up and wants to get to know her. We’ve been working on that, slowly but surely. So she got to get him a card and a gift and gave him a call aon the first Father’s Day in 11 years. Let’s hope things continue to go well between them.
