Heart Vase and Candleholder

Valentine’s Day is still very much on everyone’s mind, so today I have a V-day project for you. This craft project is a lot of fun and it is easy enough for the kids to tackle by themselves or to help you create. You can make a heart vase, a heart candle holder or both like I did.

Kathy Zengolewicz

Here is what you will need to get started:

  • Tissue paper in pink, white and purple
  • Mod Podge or any decoupage glue
  • A large canning jar or a clear vane
  • A medium size canning jar
  • A glass votive candle holder or a glass baby food jar
  • A votive or tea light candle (depending on the holder you choose)
  • A sponge applicator or a glue brush
  • Scissors

Take your tissue paper and stack it 5 or 6 sheets thick. Get a heart template, you can find one at http://www.domesticbuzz.com/templates/heart.pdf and use the template to trace a heart on the stack of tissue paper. Trace and cut enough hearts to cover the vase and candle holder if you are doing both.

Take the Mod Podge or decoupage glue and a glue brush, paint the glue on the glass working with one small area at a time so that the glue doesn’t dry up on you. Apply the tissue hearts, overlapping them slightly. You can rotate the colors like I did or you can put one row of pink, one row of purple, one row of white, etc.

Spread a layer Mod Podge over the hearts using the sponge applicator and sprinkle with glitter, or  outline a few hearts on your vase and candleholder with glue and sprinkle a little gold or crystal glitter to give it a special touch. You can also tie ribbon around the neck of the vase.
