You don’t need Soft Scrub with bleach to remove stains from your kitchen sink. You can make your own cleaner from stuff you likely already have, and it’s much, much easier on the nose and lungs than harsh chemicals. Plus, this solution only requires two ingredients.
Homemade Sink Cleaner Recipe: Mix lemon juice with cream of tartar to form a paste. Apply to sink and scrub with a brush. Then rinse. Easy! And cheap.
The measurements don’t have to be exact. Play around with it to see what works best for you. You’ll need a few teaspoons of lemon juice and a few tablespoons of cream of tartar, available in the spice aisle at your supermarket. By the way, did you know that cream of tartar is a by-product from wine production? In a way, this cleaner is a form of reuse too.

To show you how this worked for me, I’ve included before and after photos of the sink in my apartment that I just cleaned with the above recipe. Yeah, I know, it has a billion scratches that really show up in these shots.

This is one I have not heard yet! I will try it soon…see this is why I keep reading all the blogs…just when you think you ‘know it all’ =)! And I noticed you say cream of tartar will deter ants…have you tried it? We had an ant problem and my husband put these blue toxic puddles on lids around the entry point. The baby was obsessed w/them, while I was annoyed! I tried chalk and cinnamon, but I guess our ants are immune. I’m always looking for new ways to defeat them!!
