How to pursue a dream on a single mother budget

fog

The Single Mother Resources website wrote an article that really hit home for me… owning my own, that is. I think I’ve written about this before, though I’m still too sick to actually go back and look for it…

Your city and your state should have resources to help first time buyers purchase a home. In addition, there are other incentive programs such as Workforce Housing, housing auctions, foreclosure auctions, and the like, that help your dreams come true.

Pay down your credit card debt with a will, get rid of any outstanding debt that is negatively impacting your credit report, and see if your community or church has any classes or seminars on budget management and how to save. Ask around, see if you have a friend who knows a friend who would be willing to take you under her wing, teach you about finances, how to save, how to make your money work for you.

Then begin to save your money, and putting it into a 401K or having it deposited directly into a savings account means you never really have the money in hand, so you don’t miss it. See what you can do without.

There is some great advice over at Single Mother Resources on some first steps towards owning your own home. It’s a dream of mine I’m hoping to make come true. What do you want for yourself? How can you make it happen?
