I told you months ago that I redid my hall bathroom. I saved hundreds of dollars by doing it myself. Many of you wanted to see before and after pictures. Well, I have just won a b5 contest and a brand new Sony Power Shot digital camera is mine! I CAN’T BELIEVE IT! I NEVER WIN ANYTHING!
So here are my before and after pic’s. Well, the before floor images are from my bathroom with the same horrible tile and then the after shots are of my new bathroom. I still need to decorate but you can imagine! I am so happy to sit on the pot and pee now that my feet don’t stick to the pee ridden floor. I can’t believe I am about to show you my current bathroom floor.

My New Hall Bathroom:

Stay tuned for my bathroom redo. I will probably redo the floor and paint later as the floor is the main thing that is bothering me right now and I am not that good of a painter. Besides, now that I know what I am doing, it won’t take me that long to do my floor.

Great idea! Can you pay for my babysitter too? This summer would be great and AK can babysit.
I’m so proud of you! Wish I had the bravery to attempt some home projects myself… Maybe I need to get a babysitter and have you come over a few afternoons?
About the toilet, I simply cut a template from the paper on the back of the tile and got as close as I could, erring on the side of overlap. It’s always easier to cut off than add. I had to do both. Also, you will caulk around the edges so if there is a little rough edging around, you won’t see it.
Man, MO14, you are quite the ambitious one. I would recommend getting the stuff to put down to level yoru floor if it needs it and you absolutely HAVE TO PRIME! The new stick tiles these days look great but don’t stick too well by themselves.
If you have stick tile already down, don’t try to peel it up. WAY TOO HARD. Get your iron out and heat the tile by ironing a towel over it. Then it pulls right up with no effort on your part. Remember to cover your legs or you will stick to the subfloor. The heat melts the adhesive but leaves it on the floor. Check out my original post if you need a good laugh about getting stuck
ohhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! i didn’t realize it was the self stick tile!!!!!!! now i’m REALLY impressed! it looks great. once again, you’ve motivated me to do something that needs to be done (two of my bathhrooms need the tile replaced). i’ve used the self stick before so i think that’s what i’ll try. i had been kicking around the idea of laying new carpet in two of the bedrooms (i installed it myself before but that was several years ago and with kids it’s starint to look bad). i think i’ll try the bathrooms and hire someone though to do the carpets….these little ones are keeping me WAY too busy…lol.
Thanks, daddy! 1 down, 1 to go.
Checked out the photos. You did a great job on the tile. Looks like about a 1000% improvement over the way it use to look.
Love, Dad (aka POPS)
Remember, the tile was just stick tile so I just cut it around the toilet and tub. It was so easy. Once I had the floor prepared, I laid the tile in 5 hours. My other bathroom won’t take me as long.
Stick tile used to be really ugly and cheap. It has come a long way. Granted, real tile is much better, but I can do this by myself and it will do in a pinch.
beautiful!!! you did a great job. i have a question…when you laid the new tile, did you have to remove the toilet and tile under/around it or were you able to just tile around it?
Thank you. It was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.
P.S. Congrats on the camera.
I’m glad you got that done so that I could enjoy it during my visit. lol
I just love inheriting someone else’s bad taste and horrible workmanship, don’t you???? (Sarcasm, of course!)
I really like that flooring! Looks great!
