I kept trying to write this post, but just couldn’t. James Kim and his family have captured my heart and hopes, and I was so saddened to hear that, while they found the wife and girls safe in the car, stuck in the snow, James himself didn’t make it. Two days before his family was found, he’d made the decision to leave the safety of the car and try to find help.
What an incredibly brave, desperate thing to do. I can only pray that his wife doesn’t spend the rest of her life whispering, “If only he’d stayed with the car.”
They had minimal food and water… it was just a holiday trip gone terribly wrong. What had looked, on paper, to be a shortcut, was in reality a treacherous road. They ran the car at night to keep warm, and when the fuel ran out, they burned all five tires in the car for heat. Kati Kim nursed her two daughters, age seven months and four.
I’m going to be thinking about this family for a long, long time.
