i'm so nervous, will I sleep?

I don’t know what I’m going to wear tomorrow. I have to get the kid’s lunch packed tonight, and be sure I’m ready to get up and get out the door. I can’t wait. I am more excited about this job than anything I can remember since the birth of my son.

Our time together during the week is being cut down to just an hour a day, and during that time I’ve got to get him fed and bathed, jammied and loved and read to and asleep. I wish he’d nap at school! I’m feeling so… torn about this. I know I can’t provide for my son without this kind of job, but oh, I wish I could sneak off and pick him up early from school sometimes.

We’ll see. The great thing about building a tribe is that other folks love my son and will care for and about him while I’m off working. Now, if only I could find another single parent with whom to combine households, who can play the more nurturing role while I go off and bring home the bacon. That would be lovely.

I can dream, can’t I?

It definitely takes tribe to raise our children – and I couldn’t make it through the day without the support of my tribe of family, friends, and community.

Leslie, Single Father (;-), Rachel, thank you so much. It’s extraordinary. What a transition. At least my kid hasn’t noticed how little time we have, and my mother’s coming home at the end of the week… so at least someone can mother him. Cause I certainly don’t feel like I’m going to do a good job! sigh. It’s all good. it will work.

    You go Christina!
I’m sure you blew their socks off today… and your son clearly knows that he’s well-loved.

    right.
now i’ve read it and i can tell you that i SO know where you’re coming from!
i have also had to work full day from the time damien was a baby, simply because i’m the sole breadwinner in our little family.
i would love to be able to work from home or not work at all and help damien with his homework and stuff- but its just not practical.
so how did your first day go? did you sleep okay on sunday night? did everything go smoothly on monday morning?

In spite the bustle of this entry, Twice you mention, “love”.

I’m certain he will grow to know this.

So the main ingredient is there, even though I’m sure there many things you’d like to be able to include in the recipe.
