Letting kids work it out themselves

I had the joyful experience of watching a muddle of eight to ten year old boys run in a pack this weekend and not kill each other. In fact, if a grown up hadn’t been right there when it happened, I don’t think any of us would have realized that one of them had slugged the other in the stomach.

No matter what happened as they made up their own game, they fixed it on their own.

I wish my kid would get that. He’s an only child, a preccocious child, a kid with a strong sense of justice that leans towards a ‘not fair’ sort of paeon.

John over at Single Parent Plus Two has a great post on letting kids work out their difficulties and differences… on their own. Well worth the read.
