I’ve got the little black dress. I’ve got the accessories. I’ve got nowhere to go.
It’s okay, really. I love New Years Eve for the pleasure of being elegant in good company. I like the buzz of it, the ritual of a kiss at the stroke of midnight. No one I’ve ever kissed on that fateful second has ever lasted, though one came back for a second chance…
If you’re home on New Years Eve, don’t sweat it! In fact, staying home on the Big Night might be the best thing you’ll do for yourself. It’s certainly not an evening worth spending with a less than stellar companion, or out at a singles ball…
Why, whatever should we do, single mothers? Use your spirit, wit and sense of fun to have a great time, no matter where the stroke of midnight might find you.
Some ideas to get you started…
- Have a slumber party with your single mom friends and their kids, watch hokey movies on Hulu and pop real popcorn.
- Sit on the balcony in your jammies and freeze your tush off as you burn every New Years resolution you’ve ever made and vow to simply be a little more footloose and fancy-free in 2010
- Smudge your home with sage and chant, “This is my year!”
- Stay up all night reading a book
- Throw your own party–why wait around for someone to invite you?
- Be yourself. Be happy. Be lucky. Be the best single mom woman worker cook mechanic chauffeur coach you can be. Really.

wonderful!
We were going to have a fondue party, my girls and I. But they got better offers. They are teens so it is understandable. And we have spent many a New Year at home together.
They feel sad I will be alone and I feel delighted! A hot bath, a facial, a glass of wine, catching up on blog reading, a book or a great movie.. I will be just fine ringing in the new year. Fondue tomorrow
Happy New Year Solo Mother
