Why go with non-toxic baby bath toys?
In old school bath toys made with plastics you’ll find icky stuff like BPA which you may have heard of in connection to baby bottles, but it’s also present in other items, like bath toys. BPA hasn’t been officially declared a hazard yet, but studies show that there could be many long-term health dangers associated with BPA – that said, you could wait around for the scientists to sort it out or just buy BPA free products.
PVC is another danger of bath toys. Products made with PVC contain many chemicals, one of which, DEHP, has been called a probable carcinogen by the EPA – but the other chemicals in PVC aren’t safe either. PVC also leaches, which means if your child chews a product containing PVC she’s ingesting the chemicals. Another downside of PVC is that it’s not easily recycled.
Currently there are many non-toxic bath toys available on the market. There’s no excuse not to go green.
