Reason #3497832643 for health care reform: RAPE a pre-existing condition??

I interrupt my previously scheduled natterings about single mothering and Halloween to stand up and scream: WTF?

Women are being denied health insurance coverage and claims because the insurers are declaring rape to be a preexisting condition. This in from the Huffington Post’s citizen journalist project on health care reform:

Some women have contacted the Investigative Fund to say they were deemed ineligible for health insurance because they had a pre-existing condition as a result of a rape, such as post traumatic stress disorder or a sexually transmitted disease. Other patients and therapists wrote in with allegations that insurers are routinely denying long-term mental health care to women who have been sexually assaulted.

That’s it. As a woman who has experienced the pain, humiliation and aftermath of rape, I’m going to put all you corporate leeches on notice: Don’t piss women off. We’ve got a vote, and we’re not afraid to use it. We’ll find out who’s in the pockets of Big Business Insurance. We’ll dig out all the affiliate corporate conglomerates and boycott you. We’ll teach our children to despise you. We’ll drink raw milk and practice preventative medicine at home. We will find a way to opt out of your inhumane, inhuman system.

You suck.
