A lot of people still make horrid faces when the subject of cloth diapering is brought up. Diapers may not be so pleasant things in general, but parents who never consider cloth may really be missing out. After all, cloth diapers are so much more stylish than plastic and paper!
Plus, put yourself in the baby’s diaper. Your little one may not be able to speak, but he can feel whatever is on that fanny. I can’t imagine having to wear a disposable diaper. Besides
just the style and comfort issues, there’s also a matter of health.
Disposable diapers aren’t innocent. They contain plenty of chemicals, and you can’t wash them before use. Some of the yucky stuff in disposables may include dyes, dioxins and polyacrylate gel. The gel has been linked to side effects like skin irritation and toxic shock syndrome.
And, of course, cloth diapers will save you lots of money. You may spend around $300 for cloth diapers, compared to thousands in disposables. Cloth diaper users are also spared running to the store to buy more diapers.
Plus, using cloth diapers means you’ll help keep tons of non-biodegradable waste out of landfills. On a related note, your trash won’t stink!
It’s also widely believed that babes in cloth diapers will potty train earlier and more easily. This may have something to do with being able to feel the wet sensation in a cloth diaper versus the disposable with the absorbent chemicals that soak up the wetness.
As I mentioned in my post on Kushies, Tree Hugging Family is taking a closer look at some of the many cloth diaper options out there. (If you’d like to win a trial pack of Kushies, enter the contest before Feb. 12.)
Check back for more on cloth diapering options in the coming days!

There are also the benefits of little to no diaper rash, the availability of organic, bamboo or hemp materials that are safer on the planet and on your baby. As flexible as cloth diapers are now they can fit into most budgets whether it be with pre-folds, contours, one size, AIO’s etc. There are also a lot of WAHM’s making cloth diapers which give us a chance to support local or small businesses which we can’t do with disposables.

I love my cloth diapers. The laundry’s a touch of extra work, but really not all that bad. I have plenty of laundry to do anyhow, what’s an extra load or two?
