Shape Apologizes for LeAnn Rimes Cover: Really?

Subscribers of Shape might remember the October issue with LeAnn Rimes on the cover — that is, if they can see through their tears of rage. In the issue, Rimes talks about how her exercise regimen got her through a difficult divorce, which just happened to be caused by her affair with a married man. Apparently, readers were incredibly outraged that a cheater would grace the cover of Shape. As a response to the hate mail the ‘zine had been getting, editor-in-chief Valerie Latona apologized for putting the “husband stealer” on the cover, and said that it was a “terrible mistake.”

Really? As The Frisky points out, the article focused on LeAnn Rimes’ fit bod, and only touched on her personal life because working out helped her through a tough time. That’s something we all can relate to, and, as a fitness magazine, Shape should want to share a story illustrating the power of exercise. Do you think Valerie Latona’s apology is bogus or legitimate?
