Sing it, girlfriend

Meet Tere. Tere is single. Tere is a single mother. Tere got here by the long hard road of a relationship that didn’t last, even after an attempt at reconciliation.

Tere, meet us. The solomothers. We know what you’re talking about, and you put it so beautifully into words:

I believe that the love and commitment I’ve always wanted can still be had with the right man. I believe in the right man. I believe he exists and that he would be just as lucky to have me as I would be to have him. And perhaps I am beyond stupid and naive to believe in things I’ve never had, things I have no reason to believe exist, but I do.

My heart and my thoughts are with this new single mother, and I think about all of you — the women who are single mothers by choice, by circumstance, by accident, by abuse. The women whose lives flamed with renewed passion the day they decided to have a child, and the women whose hearts broke, whose souls twisted, to keep a loveless marriage alive. I think about the married women who read SoloMother and lend us their love, wisdom and compassion. I think of the fighters who have chosen the hard road for the sake of a happier future for their children. I think about the mothers whose joy in their children is unfettered and unbound by fear or expectation.

You are wonderful. You are beautiful. You are strong. You are my inspiration.
