Snap Pocket Camcorders From Coby

Teens and tweens love electronics, but parents sometimes don’t love the prices. Coby Electronics is trying to bridge that gap with the premiere “pocket” camcorder collection – featuring three state-of-the-art camcorder models, all priced under $100.

My son loves to grab my camcorder, he records everything! The only problem is when I grab it and head out the door I don’t always notice that he has it full, or the battery is run down. Until I get ready to record something. Ugh!

I’ve been thinking about camcorder options for him. I don’t want to spend a ton of money, and I’m not worried about getting top of the line. If he loses it or breaks it I don’t want to be out major cash.

I do like feeding his budding creativity by letting him create his own mini movies and recordings. I think one of these new SNAP Pocket camcorders would be perfect.

Their cheapest model the CAM3000 has a suggested retail of $39.99 and offers these features:

  • 1.5” TFT LCD full color display
  • 1.3MP CMOS sensor (1280 x 960) with LED for low-light situations
  • 4x digital zoom
  • 32MB built-in memory, SD/SDHC card slot expandable up to 8GB
  • USB 2.0 Port
  • 4x “AAA” batteries (included) with over 4 hours of battery life
  • Arcsoft™ Media Impression for editing and uploading video to YouTube™
  • Video resolution: VGA(640 x 480) @ 30fps, AVI file, codec: Motion JPEG
  • Up to 2 hours of video recording with use of 4GB SDHC card (not included)

Their mid model the CAM4000 has a suggested retail of $59.99 and the following features:

  • 2.4” TFT LCD full color display
  • 3MP CMOS sensor (2000 x 1504) with photo flash
  • 4x digital zoom
  • 32MB built-in memory, SD/SDHC card slot expandable up to 8GB
  • USB 2.0 hi-speed
  • 3x “AAA” batteries (included) with over 1.5 hours of battery life
  • Arcsoft™ Media Impression for editing and uploading video to YouTube™
  • Video resolution: VGA (640 x 480) @ 30fps, AVI file, codec: Motion JPEG
  • Up to 2 hours of video recording with use of 4GB SDHC card (not included)

The top SNAP pocket camcorder is the CAM5000 Mini HD Digital Camcorder with a suggested retail price of $99.99 and these features:

  • 2.0” TFT LCD full color display
  • 5MP CMOS sensor (2584 x 1936) with LED for low-light situations
  • 4x digital zoom
  • 128MB built-in memory, SD/SDHC card slot expandable up to 8GB
  • Integrated USB port
  • Removable/rechargeable lithium-ion battery with 2 hours of battery life
  • Arcsoft™ Media Impression for editing and uploading video to YouTube™
  • HD video resolution 720p (1280 x 720) @ 30fps, MPEG-4
  • Up to 4 hours of video recording with use of 4GB SDHC card (not included)

I think they’d be great for teens and tweens that are into fun electronics and gadgets. It never hurts to stir up a little creativity.

    To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to warn those who would purchase products made by Coby. Their lack of concern for the customer is astounding. When I first looked into getting one of their DVD players I did my research. I looked at various websites and found only good comments. So, I purchased Coby’s multi-region DVD player and it worked perfectly for the first two weeks. Then, all of sudden it began skipping on one of my DVDs. I wrote them an email about this and asked if there was a way to fix this problem. I even stated that if they could not fix it I would want it replaced. They never wrote me back. I decided to let the matter drop since it did not skip on every one of my DVDS. Three months later my DVD player stopped working completely. Now, whenever I put a DVD in it will load for about twenty minutes and then say invalid disc. So, I wrote to them again several times demanding for a replacement. They never wrote me back. I even left a comment on their website. So, I decided that I will simple go to every website concerning Coby products and leave this comment. By doing so, I hope to prevent someone else from making the same mistake I did. On one last note, I will leave you with this final sentence. Do not purchase a Coby product because it will be waste of money.
    Sincerely,
    An Annoyed Customer
