I went to the bookstore yesterday in search of a Halloween treat. I love Neil Gaiman, and had been keeping tabs on The Graveyard Book. I knew I wanted to make a gift of it to an avid reader with two small boys… but when I read the first page, I knew it would only be for the father, not the sons.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Neil Gaiman. I read all the Sandman books and all the novels I could get my hands on. American Gods is in my top five all time favorites. But when a child’s book opens with the story of the man, and the knife, and how the child became an orphan…
Well, I don’t know that this story is quite as innocent for the pre-teen set.
But the grown upsĀ will enjoy this one. And Skippyjon Jones has Mummy Trouble for my five year old on Halloween.
What ghoulie greats are you enjoying this spooky week?

Admirer, you will be pleased to know that Barnes and Noble or Borders, don’t remember which one I was in and darn they look alike, have the Halloween Tree prominently displayed in the children’s section. I almost bought it the other day.
Kelly, you’ll love the Graveyard Book. I just started reading MirrorMask to my five year old. LOL It’s not as scary as Graveyard Book.
One I used to read every few Halloweens was *The Halloween Tree* by Ray Bradbury. I’ve looked all over for my copy and can’t find it. I also really enjoy his *Something Wicked This Way Comes*, which had a really fine film adaptation.
Wow, I just read the info on The Graveyard Book and I’m very intrigued. As soon as I finish one of the two I’m reading (Seeing and Kingdom Keepers 2) it’s next!
