Lawmakers are trying to ban the use of certain phthalates in children’s toys, but the bill may still face a veto from President Bush.
Phthalates are found in soft plastic toys like rubber ducks, as well as several other toys like bath books.
Researchers are concerned that chewing on phthalate-containing toys may be dangerous to children. It’s believed that small amounts of phthalates may enter children’s bodies and act as an endocrine disruptor, causing abnormal hormonal changes.
Skeptics argue the research is weak. And Bush has said he opposes the ban.

sk, I am in favor of the ban. I know these toys can have a smell, but I’m not aware of a certain taste. Can’t say I’ve tried them though!
I think it should be banned. taste and smell these toys for yourself – they are awful.
If not a ban – atleast pediatricians and Dr.’s warning their patients.
