The thrifty mommy toy list for parents

Hsien over at Play Library has inspired Karen and me to make our own toy list. Karen took care of the kids toy list. I would like to take care of the mommy’s toy list.

What I want: Something that will take care of the household chores like laundry, cooking, cleaning, and grocery shopping so that I can take care of playing with and teaching my kids. Oh wait, that’s called a maid. OK, I want a maid.

I must have: I want extra time in the day to get stuff done and to take a nap. Now don’t go blaming my nap time on the pregnancy, folks. You know you would secretly take a nap if you could fit into your schedule and no one had to know. I think 3 hours would do it for me. That way I wouldn’t look around my living room and shake my head in exasperation.

What I hate: I can’t stand to know that I just put away 5 loads of laundry and the towels are still in the bathroom. Or that I just spick and spanned my kitchen only turn around and dirty it up with dinner. Wait, I’m not done. Ever just finish vacuuming to find that your adorable angels have just dumped the toy box? You’re shaking your head aren’t you?!

Savvy Shopper: I just recently found a pair of shoes for myself at the local Once Upon a Time, I wear a 2.5 US shoe in children’s, for $1. I love that. I love yard sales. You can find the best gems there for pennies on the dollar. Also, I get a lot of my silk and name brand clothes at Goodwill. You just can’t beat a great buy there. Our biggest one is color coordinated.

My Pick: A new vacuum cleaner because I think mine is going to die very soon. The other pick for this mommy would be a new mini van or SUV that seats 8. I never have less than 3-4 extra people in my car and I am fixing to add another car seat. So I am quickly running out of room.

Next best thing: If I had to pick the next best thing for my life right at this moment … I would want someone to plan out my grocery list and menu. I HATE doing that. I would also have someone else have my carpal tunnel surgery for me as I can’t have it until I give birth and my hand is KILLING me. I would also have my home fixedup the way I would like.

Oh, by the way, Hsien, you can borrow my Mr Potato Head. They have an extra one at my local baby store. Or I could look for you one at my fabulous consignment sale coming up :)

So what would be on your grown up mommy list? I certainly don’t want to forget the mommies and daddies out there.

I’m 56 with a 9 yr old and a 17 yr old. We unschool and I work at home. Someone is always eating or doing a project and we have a dog and three cats. I guess we’re slackers, because we don’t spend much time or thought on housework. It takes us about a half hour twice a day and then on Sunday, we do all of the laundry, change the beds and clean the bathrooms thoroughly. The rest of the time, it’s two loads of dishes a day, vacuum and dust twice a week, pick up odds and ends at the end of the day and the kids pick up their rooms somewhat and make their beds daily. For supper, I cook something quick or nuke something I’ve cooked and frozen. Breakfast and lunch is DIY. For us, life is too short to spend on housework.

I agree, Bus Stop. On the other hand, if you had a maid it wouldn’t matter. But that wouldn’t be very thrifty, now would it?!?!
Besides, eating out is my weakness.

  3. For sure! I want all those things too!!!!

  4. I agree big time with the clean up the kitchen only to have it get dirty all over again. If you are going to clean up the kitchen, you should be able to eat out!!
