This Week In Recalls: 6 Consumer Safety Hazards

Wondering which products are lurking in your apartment or house that should be recalled? Here are the products that consumers should beware of – this week. It’s time to say Auf Wiedersehen to the following six safety hazards:

  • Iams Cat Food – Proctor & Gamble voluntarily recalled some Iams canned cat food for having insufficient levels of thiamine. (Los Angeles Times blog)
  • McDonald’s Shrek-Themed Drinking Glasses – OK, so this one was last week, but McDonald’s is still getting lots of flak for their recall of their not-so-Happy Meal toys, which contained potentially dangerous levels of cadmium, a carcinogen that can cause kidney ailments. (TIME Magazine)
  • Beado Handheld Bead Play Toys – Rhino Toys, Inc. voluntarily recalled their toys due to a choking hazard: The toys’ plastic wires can detach from the hubs due to insufficient adhesive, allowing the beads to slide off. (PR Newswire)
  • GE Front-Loading Washing Machines – The home appliance manufacturers have recalled 181,000 front-load washing machines after receiving reports of broken wires on the backs of machines, posing fire and electric shock hazards to users. (Wall Street Journal)
  • FUMA Custard Pie – Domega NY International Co. recalled their baked goods due to undeclared egg ingredients that could cause life-threatening allergic reactions to unaware consumers. (FDA)
  • IKEA Roman Blinds and Roll-Up Blinds – The Swedish home decor gurus are recalling at least 4.5 million blinds in the U.S. after a child was nearly strangled on the pull cord earlier this year. The recall includes all blinds sold between 1998 and June 2009 for between $5 and $55. That’s a lot of blinds. (CNNMoney.com)
